It is ideal for fiery, driving soundscapes and exuberant improvisation.
It is rattled all over the world. However, maracas are particularly well known as a rustling and driving accompaniment in Latin American Music. Here they are usually played in pairs and rattle rhythmically to salsa, cumba, bossa, nova, merengue and samba.
