You can imitate the trilling, rolling or chirping rhythms of the lark wonderfully with this bird's voice. Their song sometimes lasts for many minutes and serves to mark the territory of the ground-dwelling songbird. They can even imitate other birds, such as kestrels.
By the way: In Leipzig/Germany, a pastry is called Leipziger Lerche (lark). The vegetarian speciality made of shortcrust pastry and marzipan is reminiscent of times long past when people in the wealthy city actually ate the little songbirds.
